The development of battery storage facilities to support the grid is increasingly being viewed as a central component of renewables and sustainability.

Project Description

Clean, renewable energy sources are needed to help create a sustainable society. They must replace our current reliance on more problematic sources of power such as oil, natural gas and nuclear. The difficulty with such renewable power sources is that they might not be produced at the time when most needed such as during times of peak energy demand. The creation of energy from such sources depends on environmental conditions. Wind energy is harnessed when it is windy, and solar energy creation is dependent on sunlight.

Such challenges require a storage solution such as lithium-ion batteries that allow renewable energy generation to be stored until needed.

Storage batteries offer a viable solution for storing intermittent energy supplies associated with renewable energy. Cost is lowering as production increases, and the combination of renewable energy sources and battery storage appears to be the best option going forward for reducing environmentally unsustainable energy production.

Battery storage option behind the grid combined with a solar package will enable the most efficient storage and sales solution.

WHW and Canford Renewable Energy (CRE) are collaborating via a joint venture and have successfully been awarded planning for their own 25 MW battery storage facility nr. Belben Road, Poole, Dorset.

This site will use large batteries built into containers to offer grid balancing support by importing power when the grid has excess capacity, and then exporting this back to the grid at times of peak demand.

CRE is working closely with a team of specialists, who deal directly with a global battery producer. We can offer assistance with design, installation, planning and grid connections, and together can offer full turnkey battery installations or assist in the early planning and detailed design stages allowing you to put the project out to tender.
